Valentine’s week is here, and love is truly in the air. Everywhere you look, couples are exchanging chocolates, holding hands, and sharing those heartwarming “aww” moments. It’s the time of year when romance blooms, and some love stories make you sigh with admiration.
Speaking of swoon-worthy stories, Hollywood has given us one of the best duos: Emily Blunt and John Krasinski. They are the kind of couple that makes you scream, “Goals!” But behind their red-carpet appearances and adorable family photos, there is a surprisingly fun story, and it involves roast chicken.
The Dish That May Have Led To ‘Yes’
In 2021, during an appearance on the River Cafe Table 4 podcast, Emily shared a fun detail about a meal she once prepared for John. This meal, she believes,
may have played a role in their engagement.
“I guess I just made something that I knew he would love. A roast chicken, who doesn’t love roast chicken? The roast chicken I love is Ina Garten’s roast chicken. It’s called her ‘Engagement Chicken’ because I think when people make it for people, they get engaged or something,” she explained on the podcast.
She had earlier made chicken noodle soup for him, but this roast chicken became the real headline. She also shared how the dish comes together.
“Lemon, garlic, onions up the chicken, thyme, salt and pepper, all that. You scatter onions around the chicken, but you pack them in really tightly into the tray. And then you roast them really high [for] about an hour and 20 minutes, and they’re done and they’re perfect,” she listed.
But the real magic, according to her, happens at the end: “When you take the chickens out, you then kind of sauté in some wine and some butter into that oniony, garlicy mixture. Oh my God, it’s divine. It’s really sticky and yummy.”
Emily revealed that once he tried the dish, “That’s it! That’s all it took!” for him to propose.
From First Meeting To Forever
Long before the roast chicken moment, there was a first meeting that set everything in motion. Emily and John met in 2008 at a restaurant through a mutual connection. For John, the impact was immediate.
“I met her, and I was so nervous. I was like, ‘Oh god, I think I’m going to fall in love with her.’ As I shook her hand, I went, ‘I like you’,” he said on The Ellen DeGeneres Show.
That first introduction turned into something serious. Within two years, in July 2010, they were married. Over the years, they have built a strong life together and are now parents to two daughters, Hazel and Violet.
