Airtel Prepaid: 4 Plans Quietly Removed; The 56-Day Validity Recharge Now Costs Rs 259 Extra

Airtel withdrew four prepaid packs from its lineup on 12 August. The ₹299, ₹579, ₹619 and ₹649 plans have gone from both the website and the Airtel Thanks app, spotted first by tipster Abhishek Yadav.

Airtel has separately raised the ₹859 plan to ₹899 with no change to benefits, which is a straightforward ₹40 increase rather than a restructuring.

Airtel 56-Day Validity Plan

The ₹579 pack was Airtel’s cheapest 56-day recharge. With it gone, the only 56-day option left is the ₹838 plan, which bundles 3GB a day and unlimited 5G.

Anyone who deliberately chose 56-day validity to avoid monthly recharges now faces a ₹259 jump, or roughly 45 percent, for benefits they may not want. That is

a far larger increase than the ₹50 on the ₹299 pack, and it affects users who had specifically opted out of the monthly cycle.

The alternative is dropping back to two 28-day recharges, which reintroduces exactly the inconvenience the 56-day pack existed to solve.

Airtel has confirmed nothing publicly, and the picture is not entirely consistent across sources.

The ₹299, ₹579, ₹619 and ₹649 removals are reported by every outlet covering this. Some reports additionally list the ₹319 and ₹799 packs as withdrawn, which would take the total to six.

There is also disagreement on the underlying data allowances. Some reports describe the discontinued ₹299 pack as offering 1.5GB a day and the ₹349 replacement as offering 2GB. Others put the ₹299 at 1GB and the ₹349 at 1.5GB.

The direction is the same either way, since the ₹349 pack offers more data than the ₹299 did. The magnitude is what remains unclear, so check what your circle actually shows rather than relying on any published figure.

These packs had already been appearing inconsistently across circles before this week, which suggests Airtel has been phasing them out in stages rather than pulling everything at once.

That matters practically. If you are on a discontinued plan, do not assume it will still be there at your next recharge, and do not assume a colleague in another state is seeing the same options you are.

What Is Still Available

Airtel’s lower price points remain. The ₹199 and ₹219 packs are still listed, though the ₹199 provides a bulk data allowance across the validity period rather than a daily quota.

The ₹349 mark is becoming the industry’s effective entry point for a daily-data pack with unlimited calling. Airtel removing the tier below it brings the company in line with where its competitors already sit.

Is This A Tariff Hike?

Not formally. Airtel has announced no across-the-board increase, and its position is that this is a restructuring of the prepaid portfolio.

The practical effect on affected users is the same as one. Removing the cheapest option in a tier and leaving a dearer alternative produces a higher bill without a tariff announcement.

Reports have pointed to possible 12 to 15 percent increases across Airtel, Jio and Vodafone Idea, but nothing has been confirmed and this week’s changes should not be read as proof that a blanket hike is imminent.
