Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson teased the final opponent for John Cena’s last WWE encounter at the end of the year when his ‘Farewell Tour’ concludes.
Cena, 48, is one of the greatest WWE superstars of all time. He is coming off the seventh edition of Crown Jewel, defeating AJ Styles. The 17-time WWE World Champion has just four remaining dates on his WWE schedule, starting with two episodes of Monday Night Raw in November, followed by the Survivor Series on November 29, and finally Saturday Night’s Main Event on December 13.
When asked about who he thinks Cena’s final opponent should be on the New Heights Podcast, Johnson appeared to be hinting at himself by puffing his chest. However, he then took a serious tone, saying that it should be who Cena wants,
for he had earned the right.
“I have a tiny bit of influence in the booking of it, but it’s really just…it’s whoever John wants. Really, that’s what it comes down to. Whoever he wants, that should be… It’s not me, or Nick Khan, or Triple H. It’s just, it’s whoever John wants. That guy has earned it. And you know what, the best part about John is he comes as advertised. So who you think he is, that’s who he is, and he’s a good dude, and I love that guy.”
Recent Speculation about Cena’s final opponent centered on Adam “Edge” Copeland, who had two successful stints with WWE before joining AEW in 2023. Fans reignited rumors of his WWE return after Copeland posted on social media that he was “going home,” and chants for Edge echoed during Crown Jewel.
However, wrestling journalist Dave Meltzer dismissed the idea, confirming Copeland remains under an AEW contract and won’t face Cena. Reports now suggest Cena’s farewell match is expected to be against former world champion Gunther at Saturday Night’s Main Event on December 13 in Washington, D.C., though fans continue to debate his final opponent.
Cena has been doing his part in keeping the rumor mill going. He recently posted this photo on his Instagram, which caused more speculation:

On the other hand, featuring on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Cena seemed to suggest that he had little control over the choice.
“My goal has always been to leave WWE better than I found it. So, whoever they deem appropriate to get that energy, man, I’m cool with that,” Cena said.
