Mohammed Shami is part of the Lucknow Super Giants squad for the IPL 2026. The Lucknow-based franchise signed Shami in a trade deal from Sunrisers Hyderabad ahead of the IPL 2026 auction last year despite his forgettable season for the Hyderabad-based franchise in 2025. The out-of-favour India pacer was included in LSG’s playing XI for their first match of IPL 2026 on Wednesday (April 1), and he opened his account by taking a wicket on the first ball of Delhi Capitals’ innings.
In an attempt to play an aerial shot of Shami‘s bowling, KL Rahul was caught by Mohsin Khan for a golden duck on the first ball of the 142-run chase.

Rahul, who was DC’s highest run-getter in IPL 2025, is playing as an opener in IPL 2026, but in the first match of this year’s IPL for the Delhi-based franchise, he failed to open his account even.
LSG all out for 141 in 18.1 overs
Before Shami made a memorable debut for Lucknow Super Giants in the IPL, Delhi Capitals bowlers made a mockery of LSG’s batting unit and dismissed them for just 141 runs in 18.4 overs. Fast bowlers Lungi Ngidi and T. Natarajan picked up three wickets each for the Delhi-based franchise, and Kuldeep Yadav accounted for the dismissal of 2 LSG batters. For the hosts, Mitchell Marsh scored 35 runs from 28 balls, but his new opening partner Rishabh Pant was only able to add 7 runs from 9 balls to LSG’s total.
Jammu and Kashmir batter Abdul Samad, who has also played for SRH in the IPL, top-scored for Lucknow Super Giants in their first match of IPL 2026. He faced 25 balls and, with the help of three fours and one six, scored 36 runs. He added 34 runs from 22 balls for the sixth wicket with Mukul Choudhary and 33 runs from 36 balls for the seventh wicket with Shahbaz Ahmed.
Samad was caught by David Miller off Natarajan’s bowling, and his dismissal triggered a batting collapse as LSG lost their remaining three batters for just 3 runs.
