Virat Kohli entered his name in the history books on Sunday (September 27) by becoming the second player in the world to score 15,000 runs in ODIs. Kohli needed 59 runs in the first India-West Indies ODI to take his tally to 15,000 runs in the 50-over format and reached the milestone in just 47 balls.

Before Kohli, only Sachin Tendulkar had managed to score more than 15,000 runs in ODIs.
Tendulkar played 463 ODIs between 1989 and 2012 and scored 18,426 runs. On the other hand, the ongoing match at the Greenfield International Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram is Kohli’s 315th ODI.
He is the fastest player to score 15,000 runs in ODIs.

Kohli was batting on 57 runs off 46 balls when he hit a four off Alzarri Joseph’s bowling in the 29th over of the run chase to take his overall tally to 15,002 runs.
In the list of batters with the most runs in ODIs, Tendulkar and Kohli are followed by Kumar Sangakkara. Sangakkara played 404 ODIs during his 15-year-long career and scored 14,234 runs.

Kohli is the highest run-scorer in ODIs against the West Indies, and if he manages to score at least 110 runs in the ongoing first match, he will break Tendulkar’s record for scoring the most runs in home ODIs.
