Ever since Vijay was sworn in as the CM of Tamil Nadu, fans have been eagerly awaiting the release of his final film, Jana Nayagan. Many believed that after multiple delays and controversies, Vijay becoming a minister would result in a smooth release for the film. However, Minister for Film Technology and Cinematograph Act in Tamil Nadu, Rajmohan Arumugam, has confirmed that the film has yet to receive its censor certificate from the CBFC.
On Friday, Rajmohan attended an event and said, “The film can be released only after obtaining censor certification. If the censor certificate is granted, we can release it. The related work is also underway.” He added, “This is not just about the film Jana Nayagan. We cannot do such things to any film for
political reasons or any other reasons. It can only be released after all required certifications are properly and legally obtained. The work for that is currently in progress.”
Previously, several ticketing websites had updated their calendars with June as the release month for the film. As per the ticket booking platform District, the expected release date of Jana Nayagan reads June 19. Meanwhile, even BookMyShow updated its calendar, putting Jana Nayagan’s release in June. However, it should be noted that there is no confirmation on this, and an official date has yet to be announced.
Recently, the producer of the film, Venkat K Narayana of KVN Productions, had revealed that the film has yet to be certified. He was visiting a temple when he told the media, “…we’re waiting for the certificate to come. I am sure that they’re going to give it anytime soon. We’ll release it at the earliest. This is not the place to talk about anything else; thank you. I came here to take God’s blessings.”
He also revealed that the new release date of Vijay’s film will be announced soon. Venkat added, “The release date will be announced as soon as we get the censor certificate. We’ll announce it well in advance once the censor certificate is in our hands. And we’ll release it in a grand way throughout the world.”
About Jana Nayagan
The film features a strong ensemble cast alongside Vijay, including Pooja Hegde, Bobby Deol, Mamitha Baiju, Prakash Raj, Narain, and Priyamani, with music composed by Anirudh Ravichander. Backed by KVN Productions, the project combines a large-scale cinematic setup with a narrative that leans heavily into political drama.
It is both a commercial entertainer and a thematic extension of Vijay’s evolving public image. Directed by H. Vinoth, the film is a political action drama that follows the story of an ordinary man who rises against injustice and gradually transforms into a leader representing the voice of the people.
