Navya Nair, a veteran of Malayalam cinema, faced an unsettling incident while promoting her upcoming film Pathirathri in Kozhikode. A video circulating online shows a man attempting to touch her inappropriately
as she exited a mall after the movie’s audio launch.
The incident was swiftly handled by Navya’s co-star, Soubin Shahir, who intervened immediately and blocked the person’s hand, preventing the situation from escalating. In the clip, both actors are seen glaring at the individual.

Navya Nair has been a prominent figure in the Malayalam film industry for over 25 years. She made her debut with Ishtam (2001) and has since delivered memorable performances in films such as Mazhathullikkilukkam, Kunjikoonan, Nandanam, Kalyanaraman, Vellithira, Gramophone, Jalolsavam, Chathikkatha Chanthu, Pandippada, Kanne Madanguka, Saira, and Oruthee. A two-time recipient of the Kerala State Film Award for Best Actress, Navya is now preparing for the release of Pathirathri, directed by Ratheena, who previously helmed the critically acclaimed Puzhu (2022) starring Mammootty.
Pathirathri also features Ann Augustine, Sunny Wayne, Athmiya Rajan, Sabareesh Varma, Harisree Ashokan, Achyuth Kumar, Indrans, and Thejas. The film is written by Shaji Maraad, with cinematography by Shehnad Jalal, music by Jakes Bijoy, and editing by Sreejith Sarang. It is scheduled to release in theaters on October 17.
Meanwhile, Navya Nair had earlier found herself in an unusual bind at Melbourne Airport after being fined AUD 1,980 (Rs 1.14 lakh) for carrying a jasmine gajra without declaring it. The actor says the flowers were in her hair, not hidden in luggage, and insists it was an innocent oversight. She later reached out to the Australian agricultural department seeking a waiver for the hefty fine.
In a chat with HTCity, Navya explained, “I was kind of shocked. It’s a significant penalty. The thing is that I was not carrying flowers in my bag. The flowers were on my hair, so it was nothing hidden but I didn’t declare it because I missed it out. They mentioned parts of plants and flowers are included that. The sniffer dogs sniffed it because I had kept the flowers in my bag in the beginning of my travel.”
