A video of India star Virat Kohli reacting angrily to heckling chants of ‘Gautam Gambhir, Haye Haye‘ at the Holkar Cricket Stadium in Indore has gone viral on social media, with several million views across
different posts on various platforms. However, the video is digitally altered and not real.
The video, where Kohli is standing beside Gambhir, Shreyas Iyer, Harshit Rana and KL Rahul, among others, is indeed from the Indore stadium, recorded by someone in the stands during the post-match presentation ceremony after India suffered a 41-run defeat to conclude the series.
Here’s the viral video:

However, the audio of the heckling is from another video. Such chants were labeled against Gambhir during the Guwahati Test of the India-South Africa series last year, which India also lost. That day, the angry fans were confronted by India batting coach Sitanshu Kotak and pacer Mohammed Siraj.
Check the old video here, and you’ll notice the audio is the same:

While it can’t be ascertained if some fans did heckle Gambhir in Indore — there have been no confirmed reports from several media organisations present at the ground — this viral video has been edited to show just that. In contrast, the Guwahati incident was confirmed by the media on the ground.
Gambhir is under pressure after overseeing yet another home series loss. A few days after the Guwahati Test, he had boasted about his white-ball record in the press, and so losing against a second-string Kiwi side with a near-full-strength 11 in favorable conditions would come as a huge blow to his fortunes.
He’s likely to continue in the job until the 2027 ODI World Cup and finish his contract, and his immediate aim is to get India success in the 2026 T20 World Cup, but his position might become untenable with more such defeats in the near future.
