Gumla (Jharkhand), Aug 9 (PTI) Eleven members of an inter-state criminal gang involved in snatching and robbery cases were arrested in Jharkhand’s Gumla district on Sunday, a police officer said.
Police recovered around 70 grams of gold, 1.5 kg of silver, Rs 1.70 lakh in cash, three country-made firearms and other articles from the accused.
Gumla Superintendent of Police Harish Bin Zaman told reporters that those 11, mostly from Odisha, were involved in two major gold robbery cases committed at Palkot and Ghaghra areas of Gumla recently.
“The arrests followed a tip-off about a group of people allegedly planning a criminal operation near the Bilung-Bira Road in Palkot. An SIT was formed under the leadership of Basia Sub Divisional Police Officer
(SDPO). They first nabbed seven people and recovered arms, cash, mobile phones and other items,” the SP said.
During interrogation, they provided information that led police to arrest four more suspects.
Nine of the arrested people hailed from Odisha, while the two others were from Chhattisgarh and Andhra Pradesh.
“The arrested accused were allegedly part of the ‘Korai Gang’, which operated across state borders and was involved in theft, snatching and robbery,” the officer said.
Police are continuing their investigation, and efforts are underway to arrest other members of the gang who are still on the run. PTI CORR ANB NN
