Stories of love and romance often capture hearts on social media, going viral for their surprise and creativity. From hiding engagement rings in unexpected places to proposing at family gatherings or even in the middle of the road, couples find unique ways to express their commitment.
A shocking incident unfolded in Taiwan on June 8, when a man’s romantic proposal turned into a police arrest. The story, now viral on social media, highlights the unexpected twists that can occur during grand romantic gestures.
A 29-year-old man named Huang had parked his Mercedes-Benz car improperly outside a noodle shop in the Songshan District, causing a traffic jam. A bystander reported the obstruction to the police, who quickly arrived at the scene around midnight.
Huang, who was with his girlfriend, appeared nervous and panicked when questioned about the improper parking, raising the officers’ suspicions.
Upon inspecting the vehicle, police discovered a straw in the central armrest containing a white powder, possibly drug residue, making the situation more severe than a simple parking violation. Huang’s behaviour escalated as he refused to cooperate and even attempted to attack the officers. The police swiftly subdued and arrested him.
In custody, Huang admitted to using the drug ketamine. Further investigation revealed his extensive criminal history involving drug abuse and other offences. Evidence from the car was collected for further legal action under Taiwan’s Narcotics Hazard Prevention Act.
The most surprising detail emerged when the police opened the car’s trunk, revealing a large banner with the words “Marry Me,” intended for Huang’s proposal to his girlfriend. This revelation shocked everyone present, especially his girlfriend, exposing Huang’s double life of romantic aspirations and serious criminal activities.
Photos of the incident, featuring the “Marry Me” banner, quickly spread online, drawing numerous comments and highlighting the moral that no plan, regardless of its romantic intent, can succeed if it lacks ethical and legal integrity.
