Tamil actor and politician Kamal Haasan has mourned the loss of Malayalam actor and filmmaker Sreenivasan. On Saturday, Haasan took to his X handle and expressed his condolences to the family and followers of Sreenivasan.
“Some artists entertain, some enlighten, some provoke. #Sreenivasan did it all, with a smile that carried truth and a laugh that carried responsibility. My respects to a remarkable mind. Deepest condolences to his family and admirers,” Kamal Haasan wrote.

Earlier today, Rajinikanth also expressed shock and grief following the demise of Sreenivasan. “It is shocking to know that my good friend Sreenivasan is no more. He was my classmate in Film Institute. (An) Excellent actor and (a) very good human being. Let his soul rest in peace,” he wrote on X.
Among others, Prithviraj and Dileep also offered their condolences to the family. Malayalam actress Kalyani Priyardarshan, whose father Priyadarshan was a good friend of filmmaker Sreenivasan, also took to her Instagram stories and paid tribute to the filmmaker.
“I have always said that there are a few friendships I watched growing up that made me want to get into cinema and work the way my dad did. And one of them was undoubtedly theirs. I grew up loving his work. It was always around me and without even realising it then, it became one of the reasons I chose this path. This feels like a loss for cinema. It feels like a loss for my family. Rest in peace dear legend… You will always be cherished,” she wrote.
Sreenivasan passed away on Saturday morning. As reported by PTI, the filmmaker breathed his last at a private hospital in Kochi, where he was admitted on Friday night. He was 69.
Sreenivasan, who hails from Kannur, had been residing in Kochi for several years. Apart from acting, he was also a director, screenwriter, dubbing artist, and producer. He acted in over 200 films, debuting with ‘Manimuzhakkam’ in 1976.
