New Delhi, Apr 17 (PTI) Parts of the long-delayed Bharat Vandana Park in Dwarka are likely to be opened to the public in phases over the coming months, official sources said on Friday.
The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) has moved a proposal to the lieutenant governor (LG) seeking approval for a staggered inauguration of the project, which has missed multiple deadlines.
Spread across nearly 200 acres in Sector 20, Dwarka, the park is being developed as a cultural and recreational hub with landscaped greens, water bodies, themed zones and architectural features. It was initially slated for completion in 2023.
Sources said the plan is to allow public access to completed and safe sections of the park while construction continues in other areas.
“We plan to open parts that have been completed and are safe for the public. This will allow people to start using the space while work continues on the remaining project,” a source said.
According to the plan, the first phase is likely to include the meditation zone, a water body, Vandana Sarovar, with boating facilities, and a large congregational area designed as a public maidan, along with basic visitor amenities.
A key attraction of the park is the Mini India zone, designed as a map-shaped layout showcasing replicas of monuments and cultural landmarks from across states and Union Territories.
The proposal has been sent to the LG, who is also the chairman of the DDA, and a decision is expected soon. PTI SSM AMJ AMJ AMJ
