German champions Bayern Munich secured their place in the Round of 16 in the UEFA Champions League with their win over Union Saint-Gilloise at the Allianz Arena on Thursday, as Harry Kane netted twice.
Kane opened the scoring for Vincent Kompany’s men in the 52nd minute of the game, before doubling down on his tally as he converted from the spot three minutes later.
“Coming back into the second half we wanted to show more intensity and I think we did that,” Kane said following the conclusion of the game.
“We scored at the right times, were a bit unlucky with the red card but even after that when we went down to 10 men we controlled the game well and earned the three points.”
Elsewhere, Spanish champions Barcelona registered a come-from-behind 4-2
win at Slavia Prague as Hansi Flick and Co registered their fourth win of the ongoing UCL campaign.
Fermin Lopez netted twice, while Dani Olmo and Robert Lewandowski bagged a goal each after the Pole had turned one into his own net following Vasil Kusej opener.
Liverpool romped their way to a 3-0 win over Marseille at the Orange Velodrome as Dominic Szoboszlai, Cody Gako and an own goal by Geronimo Rulli completed a resounding win over Arne Slot’s Reds from Merseyside.
Chelsea registered a hard-fought 1-0 win over Pafos FC at Stamford Bridge as Moises Caicedo headed the ball into the net for the only goal of the game in the 78th minute of the game at home to give the Blues the win over the side from Cyprus.
