Lucknow, May 16 (PTI) Several places in Uttar Pradesh recorded maximum temperatures above 40 degrees Celsius on Saturday, with Banda emerging as the hottest at 44.8 degrees Celsius, according to the meteorological centre here.
Prayagraj recorded 44 degrees Celsius, while Jhansi registered 44.1 degrees Celsius. Orai recorded 43.4 degrees Celsius and Hamirpur 43.2 degrees Celsius, the weather office said.
Among other major cities, Agra recorded 43 degrees Celsius, Varanasi BHU 42 degrees Celsius, Ghazipur 42 degrees Celsius, Fursatganj 41.7 degrees Celsius, Sultanpur 41.5 degrees Celsius and Churk 41.4 degrees Celsius, it said.
Varanasi airport recorded 41.3 degrees Celsius, while Azamgarh touched 41.2 degrees Celsius.
Lucknow recorded a maximum temperature
of 40 degrees Celsius, while Kanpur city and Ballia touched the 40-degree mark as well. Aligarh registered 40.8 degrees Celsius.
The meteorological department said weather conditions are likely to remain dry across the state and issued a warning of heatwave conditions at isolated places in southern Uttar Pradesh.
The weather office has forecast mainly clear skies for Lucknow and neighbouring areas on Sunday, with the maximum and minimum temperatures likely to hover around 41 degrees Celsius and 27 degrees Celsius, respectively. PTI CDN SMV PRK
