Opening batter Pratika Rawal has been ruled out of the one-off Test against England at Lord’s, starting July 10. Head coach Amol Mazumdar confirmed on Wednesday that Priya Punia has been named as her replacement in the squad for the four-day match.
Pratika last represented India in the recently concluded A series against England A, which India A won 2-1. However, according to Sportstar, she did not feature in the third one-day match of the series.
Rawal has been ruled out after suffering a knee injury that required stitches while representing India A against England A in Taunton last week. The opener sustained the cut during the match and was subsequently deemed unfit for the one-off Test.
Her absence comes as a significant setback for India, with
the 25-year-old having emerged as one of the side’s most reliable top-order batters over the past year. Since making her international debut, the right-hander has enjoyed a rapid rise, delivering consistent performances across formats and cementing her place in the batting line-up.
She made her Test debut against Australia earlier this year at the WACA in Perth, marking the occasion with a maiden half-century in the second innings. Rawal was also part of India’s ODI World Cup-winning campaign last year, scoring a century against New Zealand before her tournament was cut short due to injury.
