Deepak Ahuja, 60, and his wife Madhu Ahuja, 57, an Indian-origin US couple travelling on the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra, have gone missing after severe flash floods and mudslides struck the Nepal-Tibet border region on Wednesday morning.
The couple was travelling with the Isha Sacred Walks pilgrimage group and was returning from the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra as part of Group S3, the 26th travel group, when extreme weather hit the region.
The couple was last seen in Saga, Tibet, where they met Sadhguru along with their Yatra group before beginning their journey south towards the Nepalese border. Their phone was last pinged at around 9 am local time on August 26 at the Gyirong Immigration Facility in Tibet.
Family Awaits News
The couple’s daughters have
appealed for help in locating their parents as search and rescue operations continue in the disaster-hit Himalayan region.
Speaking about their parents, the daughters said the couple originally came from Kanpur, India. Their bua and fufa still live in Kanpur, and the family visits India almost every year.

Their parents moved to the United States in the 1990s after getting married in 1993 and have lived in Dallas, Texas, ever since.
The daughters said their father is an engineer who studied at BIT, while their mother is a CPA and an evaluation and fraud expert. Both have their own small businesses in the US.

The daughters said they had received no new information about their parents in the 24 hours before the interview.
They also spoke about Sadhguru’s emotional response after news emerged that several people travelling with Isha Foundation groups had been affected by the disaster, with some reported missing.
“We’re really hopeful that the governments can all help bring our parents home,” the daughters said.
Family In Touch With Indian, US Authorities
The family said it has been in contact with both Indian and US authorities regarding the missing couple.
The daughters said they were hoping that coordinated efforts by the governments and authorities involved would help locate their parents and bring them safely home.
What Happened To The Couple?
According to the couple’s scheduled itinerary, Deepak and Madhu were expected to complete immigration formalities at Gyirong Port before crossing into Timure in Nepal.
From there, they were scheduled to travel by road through Rasuwa district towards Kathmandu before flying to Delhi and eventually returning to the United States.
However, severe rainfall triggered flash floods, landslides and mudslides in the region. The flooding swept through border facilities, damaged bridges and disrupted roads and other critical infrastructure.
Telecommunications, electricity and road networks were also badly affected, making it difficult for authorities and rescue teams to establish contact with people in the affected areas.
Deepak and Madhu Ahuja were travelling through tour operator Trekkers Society as part of their Kailash Mansarovar pilgrimage.
Hundreds Still Missing
The disaster has left hundreds of people dead or missing after devastating flash floods and landslides struck areas near the Nepal-Tibet border.
Among those reported missing are Indian nationals, including pilgrims travelling as part of Kailash Mansarovar pilgrimage groups.
The flooding and mudslides affected areas around the Gyirong (Keyrung) Immigration Port, an important crossing point between Tibet and Nepal.
With roads and bridges damaged and electricity and communication networks disrupted, rescue teams have been working to locate survivors and people who remain unaccounted for.
For the Ahuja family, the search remains deeply personal as they continue to wait for any information about Deepak and Madhu, hoping that the couple can be found and brought home safely.
