Mohammed Shami is set to be felicitated by the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) on Saturday as he prepares to make his 100th first-class appearance, a day before the Duleep Trophy final between East Zone and South Zone at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
The veteran pacer has played a key role in East Zone’s run to the final, claiming five wickets across two innings as the defending champions Central Zone were eliminated from the competition.
Shami, who currently has 99 first-class appearances, has taken 382 wickets in the format. His career-best figures are 8 for 90, underlining his impact across a long domestic career.
CAB will mark the milestone by presenting Shami with a cricket ball signed by association president Sourav Ganguly,
a customised No. 100 jersey and a silver salver. CAB treasurer Sanjoy Das will felicitate the fast bowler.
“Shami is pride of Bengal cricket and an absolute legend. This is a small gesture on behalf of state association on completion of an important milestone,” Das told PTI.
The 35-year-old has been out of the Indian team and has not featured in an international match since the Champions Trophy final in March 2025. He was also not included in India’s immediate plans for the upcoming series against New Zealand.
Despite his absence from the national setup, Shami has continued to feature in domestic and first-class cricket as he builds towards full fitness and hopes of earning another India recall.
