New Delhi, Jul 23 (PTI) The Delhi government is planning two new flyovers in North East and West Delhi districts in a bid to reduce traffic congestion, with a feasibility study for the projects to be conducted soon, officials said on Wednesday.
“A 5-km-long flyover is being planned over the Karawal Nagar drain from Ankur Enclave to Gokalpur metro station, and a feasibility study will be carried out for the project,” an official said.
Another 5-km elevated corridor over Guru Harkishan road, from Britania Chowk to Outer Ring Road via Shakur Basti railway station, has been planned.
The PWD will carry out a survey of buildings, encroachments, trees, road signages, and other permanent structures around these crossings, also taking into consideration
any service lines in the areas of power, water, gas pipelines, and others such installations.
The study would also take into account parking spaces on these stretches and the opening and closing times of railway crossings.
A feasibility study is conducted by the PWD to formulate a detailed report regarding any proposed road project before a proposal in this regard can be sent to the relevant authorities for approval.
A tender has been issued to rope in a private consultant to conduct the feasibility studies, at the cost of Rs 3 crore, PWD officials said.
The contractor will prepare a layout drawing of the underpass and overbridges along with details of components such as the main carriageway, footpath, service road, non-motorised vehicle lane, central verge, bus stops, etc.
“While the PWD has an estimate of vehicles on these roads, the total vehicle count and the peak hour load will also be recorded under the feasibility studies, which will be conducted at the cost of Rs 3 crore,” officials said.
The consultant will also conduct a cost-benefit analysis of the scheme by taking into account the financial, environmental, and social costs in implementing the scheme. PTI SSM ARB ARB
