Harmanpreet Kaur is the captain of the Indian women’s cricket team, and on Tuesday (December 30) she entered her name in the history books by equalling former Indian skipper and legendary batter Mithali
Raj’s record of winning the most Player Of The Match (POTM) awards for Team India in the 20-over format of the game.
During her 23-year-long international career for Team India from 1999 to 2022, Mithali played 89 T20I matches for the Women in Blue and bagged 12 POTM awards, whereas Harmanpreet also now has 12 POTM awards to her credit in 187 T20I matches.

In the fifth and final T20I of the five-match series against Sri Lanka, Harmanpreet bagged the POTM award for her 68-run knock. The 36-year-old right-handed batter from Moga in Punjab walked out to bat at No. 4 for the hosts at Greenfield International Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram and slammed 9 fours and 1 six during her 43-ball stay at the crease.
She helped India bounce back from 27/2 in 4.1 overs and post a challenging total of 175/7 in 20 overs, which in the end proved to be enough to secure a 15-run win.
During her stay out there in the middle, Harman added 61 runs from 37 balls for the sixth wicket with all-rounder Amanjot Kaur, who made 21 runs from 18 balls.
India had high expectations from young opener Shafali Verma in the fifth T20I, but she failed to play a big knock on Tuesday. In the match where the 21-year-old cricketer had a chance to break the world record for scoring the most runs in a women’s T20I series, she returned back to the pavilion on the first ball of the second over itself after scoring just 5 runs from 6 balls.
But despite her flop show in India’s last international match of calendar year 2025, Shafali bagged the Player Of The Series award.
The Player Of The Series award won by Shafali in the India-Sri Lanka T20I series is her third POTS award for India in the shortest format of the game, and she has now equalled Harmanpreet, Mithali and Deepti Sharma’s record.
