A simple auto ride in Bengaluru turned into a “wholesome” moment that left many touched. A techie shared how she was picked up by a woman auto driver, a sight that still feels uncommon on city roads. The
short ride left a strong impression and quickly went viral. The passenger said her friends were more excited than she was when the auto arrived. During the ride, she spoke to the driver and learned about her journey. The woman was trained for close to 40 days with Namma Yatri and chose an electric auto because it was easier to handle.
She bought the vehicle on loan and has already repaid a large part of it. The driver earns around Rs 45,000 a month and sometimes even more. She also shared that nearly 300 women auto drivers operate in the Koramangala area and stay connected through a group. She said people are mostly kind, and safety has not been a major issue, which made the ride feel inspiring.
A Regular Auto Ride Turns Special In Bengaluru
Taking to X (Formerly Twitter), the woman wrote, “Booked an auto. The lady driver pulls up. My friends got more excited than me lol ‘omg omg it’s a woman driver.’ Obviously had to talk to her. She told me Namma Yatri trained her for 40 days, felt that the electric auto was easier to ride. Got the auto on loan, she has already paid 2.5 Lakh. Makes 45,000 per month and sometimes more. There are 300 women auto drivers across Koramangala, apparently, they’re all in a group. She’s never been teased, and people are mostly supportive. She smiled and said her favourite part is youngsters talking to her at signals.”
“Girls especially talk to her proudly, happily, waving and smiling. She didn’t get any subsidised loan. No special interest. Not even because it’s an electric auto (and yeah, I really wish that support existed for women). But still, she was just happy. Confidence. Proud. The whole ride felt insanely wholesome. Sometimes Bengaluru gets it very right,” she added.

Social Media Reacts With Praise
Reacting to the post, a user wrote, “I have a blanket policy of paying 1.5x to 2x for electric autos; they are so much better. I really wish the apps would let me only book e-autos as they do with cabs. I’ve, in fact, written letters to all the apps, but no reply alas.”
Another shared, “Glad to hear that women auto and cab drivers are slowly but steadily increasing in our country, as it would really help in ensuring the safety of women travelling alone, especially at night. Another great step towards ensuring women’s safety.”
“The other day, I booked a Rapido auto in Bengaluru and saw the driver’s name as Malashree in the app. I was surprised, low key and excited to ask her how she manages driving here(It’s crazy) but then a guy showed up at last,” a comment read.
An individual stated, “Confidence, dignity, and self respect matter more than anything. A woman earning independently, being respected on the road, and feeling proud of her work says a lot about the city and its people. Small moments like these restore faith that progress doesn’t always need noise, it’s sometimes just quiet pride and genuine support.”
Another mentioned, “Need to normalise more of this.. society needs more women to participate in the economy.. India’s GDP could easily be 20% more if women’s participation went up.”
One more added, “They are more patient, less talkative, and careful while driving than male auto drivers.”
Namma Yatri’s Direct to Driver Model
Namma Yatri app does not involve any commission or middlemen. This means the full fare paid by the passenger goes straight to the driver and helps support their family.
