Pakistan women’s cricket team faced defending champions Australia in the ninth league match of ongoing ICC Women’s ODI World Cup 2025 on Wednesday (October 8). In the match played at R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo, the Fatima Sana-led side suffered a humiliating defeat by 107 runs. The Southern Stars posted a total of 221/9 in 50 overs and then bowled Pakistan out for just 114 in 36.3 overs.
The defeat against Australia in Colombo is Pakistan’s third loss in as many matches played so far in the ongoing tournament. And now after losing three matches, Pakistan’s chances of qualifying for the semifinals are in danger.
The Pakistani team will finish in the top four and make it to the semifinals of ongoing eight-team tournament if they win all four of their
remaining league matches and not more than three teams win more than four matches in the league stage.
As of now, India, England and Australia have won two matches each in the ODI World Cup 2025.
Pakistan’s upcoming matches
Pakistan will face England in their fourth league match of Women’s ODI World Cup 2025 next Wednesday (October 15) in Colombo and then take on New Zealand at the same venue on October 18. Pakistan’s last two league matches are scheduled against South Africa and Sri Lanka on October 21 and 24 respectively.

Pakistan’s results so far
Pakistan kicked off their campaign in the ongoing tournament on Thursday (October 2) against Bangladesh in Colombo but suffered a shocking defeat by 7 wickets.
In their second league match on Sunday (October 5), Pakistan faced India at R. Premadasa Stadium and produced a super bowling show. But their batters failed to deliver, and in reply to the 248-run target, Pakistan could only manage to score 159/10 in 43 overs and thus went on to lose the match by a big margin of 88 runs.
