New Delhi, Aug 9 (PTI) A portion of an old and dilapidated building collapsed in central Delhi’s Kucha Chalan area on Sunday, bringing down an adjoining electricity pole and wires, though no injuries were reported, police said.
The incident took place at around 5 pm at Kucha Chalan, located within the Chandni Mahal police station limits.
According to police, a portion of the staircase from the top floor of the building collapsed onto the first floor. The debris then fell onto nearby electric wires, causing an adjoining electric pole to break.
“The electric wires subsequently came down, prompting police to cordon off the area as a precautionary measure,” a senior police officer said.
On receiving information about the incident, teams reached the spot
and took stock of the situation. Police said the building is old, dilapidated and currently unoccupied, except for two shops operating on the ground floor. The area was cordoned off and locals were moved away from the site to prevent any untoward incident.
Personnel from the BSES and Delhi Fire Services were immediately called to the spot. Restoration and repair work is currently underway to remove the damaged electrical infrastructure and make the area safe, the officer said.
The police personnel deployed at the scene assisted the agencies concerned in carrying out the repair work, while ensuring that people do not gather near the affected area. PTI BM SMV RC
