India won the toss and chose to bat first, reaping the benefits of their decision as Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill registered triple-digit scores, helping the team to a massive total of 518 runs for the loss of five wickets.
Jaiswal opened the innings with KL Rahul, who was dismissed by Jomel Warrican for 38 runs. Sai Sudharsan replaced Rahul and partnered with Jaiswal in a 243-run stand before falling to Warrican for 87 runs.
Jaiswal, who was batting brilliantly on 175 runs, was unfortunately run out after a mix-up in the middle of the pitch, ending his innings on the second day.
Nitish Kumar Reddy contributed 49 runs before Warrican struck again, while Dhruv Jurel added 44 runs before being dismissed by opposition captain Roston Chase. India declared their innings at 518/5 in 134.2 overs. Gill remained unbeaten on 129 runs as Warrican finished with a three-fer, while Chase removed a wicket.
Gill’s ton also put him up with in the esteemed company of Virat Kohli as he became just the second Indian skipper to register five centuries in a calendar year.
