As Bengaluru gears up to welcome the New Year, city authorities have announced extensive traffic restrictions, diversions, and parking bans across key central areas to manage the anticipated crowds. The measures, aimed at ensuring smooth movement and public safety, will be in effect from the evening of December 31, 2025, through the morning of 1 January, 2026.
From 8 pm on 31 December to 2 am on 1 January, all vehicles except those belonging to police and emergency services will be prohibited from entering major central areas, including MG Road, Brigade Road, Church Street, Residency Road, Museum Road, Rest House Road, and Residency Cross Road. Parking will also be banned on these roads and adjacent streets from 4 pm on 31 December to 3 am on 1 January.
Vehicle owners have been instructed to remove any parked vehicles by 4 pm, failing which fines will be imposed.
Pedestrian traffic on Brigade Road will be regulated, with only one-way movement allowed from the MG Road junction towards the Opera House junction, ensuring safety amid the expected surge of footfall.
New Year In Bengaluru: Diversions To Avoid
Authorities have announced specific traffic diversions to facilitate movement around congested areas: vehicles traveling from Queen’s Circle towards Halasuru will be diverted at Anil Kumble Circle, while those coming from Halasuru towards Cantonment must take a detour via Trinity Circle and Dickenson Road.
Parking and Cab/Auto Pick-Up Points
Limited parking will be available at Kamaraj Road and the Shivajinagar BMTC complex. Designated cab and auto-rickshaw pick-up and drop-off points have been set up at BRV Junction, CTO Junction, Cubbon Road, Cubbon Park Metro Station, and Trinity Circle. Additional parking facilities are planned near UB City, Garuda Mall, and Kamaraj Road.
In Koramangala, traffic restrictions will apply on YD Math Road up to Microland Junction, including JNC Road and 17th H Main. Vehicles coming from Adugodi and Madivala will need to divert via UCO Bank, Madiwala Check Post, Water Tank Junction, and Kripanidhi Junction. Parking will not be allowed on 80 Feet Road and Someshwara Temple Road, with BBMP grounds near Munireddy Kalyana Mandapam and Bethany School designated for temporary parking. Pick-up and drop-off points for cabs and autos have been arranged at UCO Bank Service Road, NGV Backgate, and Sukhsagar Junction.
New Year In Bengaluru: Mall Parking Restrictions
Around major malls including Mall of Asia, Phoenix Mall, and Orion Mall parking will be prohibited along adjacent service roads and arterial routes such as Ballari Road Service Lane, Dr Rajkumar Road, and West of Cards Road. BMTC has arranged special buses and tempo services connecting these malls to Majestic, Mysuru Road Satellite Bus Stand, Mekhri Circle, Hebbal, and Hoskote.
In Indiranagar, parking restrictions will apply along ITPL Main Road, 100 Feet Road, 12th Main Road, and areas near Hoodi Metro Station and Medicover Hospital. BMTC buses and tempo passengers may use parking near 17th Main Road and BM Sri Junction, while designated cab pick-up and drop-off points are set at Laurie Junction, Aster Hospital, and BM Sri Junction.
Commuters are advised to plan their travel ahead, use public transport, and rely on designated pick-up and drop-off points to avoid congestion during Bengaluru’s New Year celebrations. Authorities have urged everyone to follow traffic rules and cooperate with police personnel to ensure a safe and smooth start to 2026.
