New Delhi, Sep 1 (PTI) The National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) on Tuesday organised a candle march in Delhi demanding justice for a 16-year-old girl who was allegedly gang raped in a moving bus.
NSUI members gathered in solidarity with the girl and her family and demanded swift action in the case, accountability and measures to ensure the safety of women and children, the student organisation said in a statement.
The organisation alleged that heavy police deployment and barricading were put in place outside its national office at Raisina Road during the protest.
The protesters said that peaceful demonstrations seeking justice and raising concerns over women’s safety will continue.
NSUI demanded swift, impartial and strict action in the case
and called for concrete measures to strengthen the safety of women and children in Delhi.
The student organisation said it would continue to raise the issue and stand with the girl and her family until justice is delivered.
A 16-year-old who boarded a bus in Greater Noida on a rained out night earlier this month was allegedly gang-raped by the conductor and driver and abandoned in Kashmere Gate, more than 40 km away, police said. The two accused have been arrested. PTI AHD SHS
