If you’re planning to take the Delhi Metro to work on Tuesday, this update could save you time and trouble. The Red Fort Station of the Delhi Metro will be closed for commuters following a blast in the area
that killed at least eight people on Monday evening.
The Red Fort station is part of the Delhi Metro’s Violet Line, which operates between Kashmere Gate and Ballabhgarh, covering 35 stations, and is a key route for commuters travelling through Old Delhi. It was reported early on Tuesday morning that as part of the security protocol, Gates 1 and 4 of the station would be closed and that passengers would have to use Gates 2 and 3 for entry and exit.
However, the Delhi Metro posted an update on X at 8:54am, announcing that the Lal Qila (Red Fort) Metro Station would be closed “due to security reasons”, adding that services on other Metro stations would continue uninterrupted.

A high-intensity explosion ripped through a slow-moving car at a traffic signal near the Red Fort metro station on Monday evening. Twenty people were also injured in the blast that gutted several vehicles.
The Delhi Traffic Police also issued an advisory regarding restrictions, and diversions have been put in place in both the carriageways and service roads — Netaji Subhash Marg from Chatta Rail Cut to Subhash Marg Cut.
The traffic police advised commuters to avoid these routes from 6am till further order and use alternative roads for a hassle-free journey. “No vehicles shall be allowed on Netaji Subhash Marg from Chatta Rail Cut to Subhash Marg Cut and vice versa,” read the advisory.
The national capital has been placed on high alert with strict vigil being maintained at the airport, railway stations and bus terminals.
