Brazil topped Group C at the FIFA World Cup 2026 following their dominant 3-0 win over Scotland at the Miami Stadium in USA on Thursday in their final Group assignment.
Vinicius junior bagged a brace before Matheus Cunha put the result beyond any doubt and help the Selecao secure the top spot in their Group. It was the 12th time Brazil managed to win their Group at the FIFA showpiece.
Vini became the first Brazilian player to score in all three men’s World Cup group games since Rivaldo and Ronaldo in 2002, as he joined an elite list that also includes the legendary Romario and Jairzinho.
Vinicius opened his scoring account in the tournament with Brazil’s lone goal in a 1-1 draw against Morocco in their group-stage opener. He followed that up by
finding the net again in a comfortable 3-0 victory over Haiti. The Real Madrid forward completed a remarkable run of goals in every group match when he scored against Scotland in Brazil’s final group fixture, calmly rounding goalkeeper Angus Gunn before rolling the ball into an unguarded net.
Moments later, Vinicius appeared to have added another goal to his tally, but the effort was disallowed after officials ruled that he had fouled Jack Hendry in the build-up, clipping the defender’s leg before winning possession.
Undeterred, Vinicius struck again in first-half stoppage time. Rising at the far post, he met a cross with a well-placed header that sparked jubilant celebrations among the Brazil supporters.
Notably, every time a Brazilian player has scored in all three of the team’s group-stage matches, the Seleção have gone on to lift the World Cup trophy—a streak that remains intact to this day.
Morocco came in second in the group, to also punch their ticket int eh knockouts stages of the showpiece, following their 4-2 victory against Haiti in the other Group C fixture, while Scotland ended third and remain hopeful of a qualification to the knockout phase of the quadrennial spectacle by virtue of finishing as one of the top-eight third-placed teams from across the board. Haiti finished at the bottom of the table and were ousted from the showpiece in USA, Canada and Mexico.
