Ferozepur, Jun 3 (PTI) An employee lost his life in a major fire that broke out at a restaurant in the cantonment area in Punjab’s Ferozeour on Wednesday, police said.
The staff raised an alarm after noticing smoke emanating from inside the eatery, following which fire tenders were rushed to the spot, they said.
Firefighters managed to contain the fire before it could spread further in the area, refilling the fire tenders with water 22 times while battling the blaze.
During the operation, the charred body of an employee, Tulsi, was found inside the restaurant.
Dr Karaj from the civil hospital said, “The deceased sustained severe burn injuries. Postmortem will be conducted after police instructions.” Eyewitnesses said the fire was confined to the interior
portion of the restaurant, causing large-scale damage to furniture and other items. The incident triggered panic among the employees and residents of the surrounding areas, they said.
Abhishek Pandey, Superintendent, Sanitary and Fire Department, Cantonment Board, said the fire has been completely extinguished though the exact cause of the blaze is yet to be ascertained. PTI COR CHS ARI ARI
