Brazil teenager Endrick, who made the loan move to Ligue 1 side Olympique Lyon from Spanish heavyweights Real Madrid in December, opened up on his decision to make the switch.
The 19-year-old who hit the headlines early and arrived in Madrid in 2024 and made an immediate impact for the Spanish Capital City club, but found play time hard to come by amid the constellation of stars at Los Blancos.
“I arrived just after turning 18, and I scored on my debut in every tournament,” the Palmeiras product said.
“Many things happened faster than many expected. I understand that people wanted me to play more, but I realize that it won’t always happen that quickly,” he added.
The young forward drew comparison to the legendary Pele early in life and secured a high-profile
move to Spanish outfit Real Madrid.
Endrick also touched up on the guidance he has received from Madrid boss Xabi Alonso and expressed his desire to emulate the Spanish World Cup-winner.
“I spoke to Xabi Alonso about a lot of things. He won a lot of titles, he was a world champion. He has a lot to teach and a lot to contribute.”
“I want people like him to always help me. I also want to be a world champion with the national team, like he was with Spain,” he explained.
“Ancelotti and Xabi both advised me to look for playing time after recovering from my injury. They are two champions with winning careers. They’ve been through it all: victories, defeats, injuries, titles. You have to listen to the advice of people like them.”
The Brazilian is on loan at Lyon up until the end of the season with no option to make the move permanent and the player reiterated his relationship with the Spanish club.
“Leaving the biggest club in the world, where everyone dreams of playing, would be difficult for anyone, but I’m not leaving. It’s just a pause,” he added.
