Shafali Verma is on fire these days. The 21-year-old cricketer from Rohtak in Haryana is playing as an opening batter for the Indian women’s cricket team in the ongoing five-match T20I series against Sri
Lanka, and in the four matches played so far, she has amassed a total of 236 runs. Shafali kicked off the series in Visakhapatnam on December 21 by scoring 9 runs from five balls and then registered scores of 69* (34 balls), 79* (42 balls) and 79 (46 balls) in the next three matches.
The 79-run knock by Shafali in the fourth India-Sri Lanka T20I played at Greenfield International Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram on Sunday (December 28) helped her take her tally of runs to 236 in the ongoing series, which is a record for the most runs by an Indian batter in a women’s T20I series.
Before Shafali, the record of scoring the most runs in a T20 series for India was in the name of Smriti Mandhana. Mandhana played five T20Is against England in June-July 2025 and amassed a total of 221 runs.
