2025 was a year of lessons, love, and personal growth for actress Rakul Preet Singh. The actress kicked off the year with the romantic comedy Mere Husband Ki Biwi, starring alongside Arjun Kapoor and Bhumi
Pednekar. And just before the year ended, she returned with De De Pyaar De 2, the sequel to Ajay Devgn’s popular 2019 romantic comedy.
Now, fresh off the success of the film, Rakul opened up about how it feels to receive widespread love. The actress also reflected on how good performances are not measured solely by box office success and explained why she believes that “comedy is the toughest genre.”
Rakul Preet Singh on De De Pyaar De 2’s Success
In an interview with Bollywood Hungama, Rakul addressed the overwhelming love she has been receiving for De De Pyaar De 2. She said,
“Who doesn’t love success? You put so much effort into a film, it’s literally months or even a year of hard work and you feel an adrenaline rush when people say, ‘We loved the film.’ Of course, it changes the energy, and that’s what you crave as an actor.”
Rakul Preet Singh on How Box Office Success Shapes an Actor’s Career
When asked if she believes commercial success plays a major role in landing future projects, she said, “Yes, it does. I would be lying if I said it doesn’t. I’m speaking on behalf of actors, it’s not entirely in our control. There are too many dynamics involved, from marketing and reach to the release timeline. The last person who can actually do anything about it is the actor, because our job is done between ‘action’ and ‘cut.’”
She added that it’s the nature of the business they work in, where success speaks louder than anything else.
She said, “You do need credibility, even if it’s not box office success, to move forward as an actor. There have been great films that haven’t done well at the box office, but people have still taken note of strong performances. However, after a couple of such films, you eventually need a box office success. Consistency and numbers, it’s sad, but they do matter.”
Rakul Preet Singh on Why Comedy Is the Toughest Genre
When asked if actors in comedy films get the respect they deserve, she shared,
“Personally, if I really have to choose, I’d say comedy is the toughest genre. Making people laugh is harder because comic timing depends on every co-actor’s timing. If you’re in a scene with multiple actors, your dialogue has to land at the right moment, you can’t miss the punch.”
She continued, “Whereas in serious scenes, like when you’re crying, you have the support of glycerine and close-ups. It doesn’t necessarily depend on another actor. So I feel any actor would agree that comedy is tougher, and I hope it gets a little more respect. It does get respect, but maybe a little more credit.”
Rakul will next be seen alongside Sara Ali Khan, Wamiqa Gabbi, and Ayushmann Khurrana in Pati Patni Aur Woh Do.
