PM Modi's Big Move On Exam Reforms: Infosys Chairman Nandan Nilekani To Head High-Powered Task Force

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday shared a new Instagram video announcing the formation of a high-powered task force on examination reforms, to be headed by technology expert Nandan Nilekani, saying the panel would recommend measures to make India’s examination system more transparent, credible and technology-driven.

In a video message posted on Instagram, the Prime Minister said the government has already takenseveral steps to protect students’ interests following the alleged NEET-UG 2026 paper leak and stressed that reforms would now focus on strengthening the examination system for the future.

“The Government of India has continuously taken several major steps for the welfare of students. Those who played with the future of students are now

rotting in jails. We have already set up fast-track courts. Tomorrow, in Parliament, we will also move forward with a new law containing stringent provisions,” Modi said.

He said the government was now looking beyond immediate action and working towards long-term structural reforms.

“However, we also need to think about the future. Our examination system should be trustworthy, transparent, and make the maximum use of technology. Keeping all these aspects in mind, we have decided to constitute a high-powered task force under the leadership of globally renowned technology expert Nandan Nilekani to focus on examination reforms,” he said.

The Prime Minister added that the recommendations of the task force would be implemented to improve the integrity of future examinations.

“Based on the recommendations of this task force, we will ensure the credibility and reliability of upcoming examinations as quickly as possible,” PM Modi said.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s remarks came a day after Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan stepped down from his post, with Union MinisterPralhad Joshi being entrusted with the additional charge of the Education Ministry.

After taking charge as the new education minister, Joshi thanked PM Modi and assured him he will fulfil all responsibilities with dedication.

“I accept this responsibility with a sense of duty and humility. I am thankful to the Prime Minister. In the last 12 years of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government, many historic achievements have been made. In the last four to five years, Dharmendra Pradhan also implemented the National Education Policy, and several important initiatives were undertaken. The country has made significant progress in the new education system. Under the guidance of the prime minister, I will work to the best of my ability and fulfil my responsibilities with dedication,” Joshi said.

Earlier on Saturday, representatives of the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) held the third round of discussions with Union Ministers JP Nadda and Jitendra Singh at the Constitution Club in New Delhi. The talks concluded with the Centre accepting the protesters’ key demands, following which the agitation was called off.

As part of the agreement, the Centre said it would examine CJP’s five-point charter on examination reforms, ensure no retaliatory action is taken against protesters, provide copies of FIRs linked to the agitation, extend compensation to affected families in accordance with government norms, and consider the remaining demands with a sympathetic approach.

Forty-nine days after the Jantar Mantar protest ended following the breakthrough talks between the Centre and the CJP, mobile internet services have been restored at the protest site and nearby areas of central Delhi.

The restoration of internet services marks a return to normalcy in the area. All 18 Delhi Metro stations that had faced restrictions are now fully operational, while authorities have appealed to the remaining protesters to return home peacefully.
