Former England cricketer Michael Vaughan on Monday took a sly dig at his contemporary Wasim Jaffer, after India collapsed like a pack of cards in their first innings of the second Test against South Africa in Guwahati, with the hosts conceding a 288-run lead.
India crumbled to 201 all out in response to South Africa’s imposing first-innings total of 489, succumbing to a dramatic batting collapse on the third day of the second Test in Guwahati on Monday.
Star all-rounder Washington Sundar and Kuldeep Yadav fought back after India slumped to 122/7 in the second session, putting together a gritty 72-run stand for the eighth wicket before Sundar was dismissed for 48 off 92 deliveries.
“Hi @WasimJaffer14.. How’s today going? Left-arm seamers are not
easy to face. 😜,” Vaughan tweeted on Monday afternoon.

Vaughan’s hint was about the star South African left-arm pacer, Marco Jansen, who picked six wickets in potentially a match-winning spell. The latter dismissed Dhruv Jurel for a duck, skipper Rishabh Pant (7), Ravindra Jadeja (6), Nitish Reddy (10), Kuldeep Yadav (19) and Jasprit Bumrah (5).
After removing Sundar, South Africa claimed the remaining Indian wickets, bowling out the hosts in under 84 overs to bag a huge first-innings lead of 288 runs. Kuldeep fell for 19 off 134 deliveries after the South Africans took the new ball in the day’s final session.
Jansen was the wrecker in chief with figures of 6/48 while Simon Harmer took three wickets for 64 runs. At lunch, India were struggling at 174/7 in 67 overs.
Meanwhile, Vaughan’s quip wasn’t taken well by Indian fans, who hit back at him, mentioning how England lost an Ashes Test in two days on Saturday, November 22.
Let’s take a look at some of the reactions:
Bro you lost a test in two days reducing Ashes rivalry to some roadside fight level. Have some shame.

After that Ashes drubbing you should be in hiding for a week, Michael, you really should. Don’t worry about us. #INDvsSA
