Palanpur, Sep 29 (PTI) A woman was attacked and injured by a sloth bear in a forest in Gujarat’s Banaskantha district on Tuesday morning, a forest official said.
The incident occurred around 8.30 am when the victim and three other women entered the forest near Siyavada village in Danta taluka to look for goats that had not returned home the previous evening, Range Forest Officer (RFO) of Danta Chetansinh Barad said.
A female sloth bear, accompanied by two cubs, attacked one of the women and inflicted injuries on her arms, legs and hip, he said.
The injured woman was immediately taken to Danta Civil Hospital and was later shifted to the Civil Trauma Centre in Palanpur for further treatment due to the severity of her injuries, the official said.
“Bears usually do not attack humans. But female bears turn more aggressive when they are with cubs. This may be the reason for the attack,” he said. PTI COR PJT ARU
