Netanyahu's Visit Postponed Over Delhi Blast? Israel Stresses ‘Full Confidence’ As Centre Clarifies

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office on Tuesday said that it is currently coordinating with Indian authorities to set a new date for his postponed visit.

The trip, originally scheduled for

December, was postponed without an official statement at the time.

Despite the delay, Netanyahu’s office reiterated that Israel’s bond with India remains strong, and the Prime Minister has “full confidence” in India’s security under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

A statement shared on social media platform X read, “Israel’s bond with India and between Prime Minister Netanyahu and Prime Minister @narendramodi is very strong. The PM has full confidence in India’s security under PM Modi, and teams are already coordinating a new visit date.”

The Israeli statement comes after some media reports had suggested that the postponement was due to “security concerns” after a deadly terror attack in New Delhi two weeks ago, which killed at least 15 people and injured many others.

However, speaking with CNN-News18, sources clarified that the reports were “misleading and factually incorrect,” urging caution against drawing connections between the visit delay and the attack.

“Media reports in this regard are misleading and factually incorrect. Drawing linkages with Delhi blast are irresponsible. We would urge caution against such misleading news stories,” the source said.

Netanyahu’s last official visit to India was in January 2018, a six-day trip that marked the second visit by an Israeli Prime Minister to India. This visit followed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s landmark trip to Israel in 2017.

Recently, Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal had completed a successful three-day visit to Israel, where he met with Netanyahu and other key Israeli leaders. Goyal had conveyed PM Modi’s warm wishes to Netanyahu and updated him on the outcomes of his discussions with Israeli officials, including the Business Forum and CEOs Forum.
