India and Jordan signed several Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) on Monday to deepen bilateral cooperation across various sectors, including renewable energy, water resources, digital transformation, and cultural heritage. This move comes as Amman signals its intent to join major Indian-led global initiatives, such as the International Solar Alliance (ISA). The agreements were finalised during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s two-day official visit to the kingdom.
According to the list of outcomes released by the Ministry of External Affairs, the MoUs cover technical cooperation in new and renewable energy, collaboration in water resource management and development, a twinning agreement between Petra and Ellora, renewal of the Cultural Exchange
Programme for 2025–2029, and a letter of intent on sharing population-scale digital solutions for digital transformation.
Jordan also expressed its intention to join the International Solar Alliance, the Global Biofuel Alliance and the Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure. India, in turn, announced its support for the India-Jordan Centre of Excellence at Al Hussein Technical University in Amman, which includes training 10 Master Trainers over a three-year period.
The developments came during PM Modi’s meeting with King Abdullah II, where the two leaders discussed expanding ties across key sectors. Describing the talks as “productive”, the Prime Minister said he had shared an eight-point vision to strengthen cooperation in areas such as trade, critical minerals and nuclear collaboration.
In a post on X, PM Modi outlined the eight-point vision focused on trade and economy, fertilisers and agriculture, information technology, healthcare, infrastructure, critical and strategic minerals, civil nuclear cooperation, and people-to-people ties.
