Former West Indies all-rounder Dwayne Bravo has said the familiar Indian conditions could work in his team’s favour in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026. The T20 showpiece is scheduled to be held from February
7 to March 8 in venues across India and Sri Lanka.
Bravo backed the current squad’s experience and balance.
“The squad has a lot of power and plenty of experience. Players like Shimron Hetmyer, Rovman Powell and Brandon King are there, and Shai Hope is leading the side. Akeal Hosein is one of the best T20 bowlers in the world,” Bravo said.
Bravo, who was part of West Indies’ 2016 T20 World Cup-winning team, also pointed to the mix of youth and experience in the side.
“There is youth as well as players like Jayden Seales and Shamar Joseph. It’s a good mix overall.”
He added that familiarity with Indian conditions could benefit the team.
“A lot of the players have played in India through the IPL, and the conditions are quite similar. Hopefully, that gives them a good chance in the tournament,” he said.
Hope to lead Windies
Wicketkeeper-batter Shai Hope will captain the West Indies in the 2026 edition of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. The West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) took to X on Monday (January 26) to announce the 15-member squad for the upcoming 20-team tournament.
The West Indies squad features the likes of Jason Holder, Rovman Powell, Roston Chase, Sherfane Rutherford, Shimron Hetmyer and Romario Shepherd, among others, but surprisingly there was no place for former Mumbai Indians, Rajasthan Royals and Lucknow Super Giants opener Evin Lewis.
Hard-hitting batter Quentin Sampson is the surprise inclusion in West Indies’ 15-member squad for the T20 World Cup 2026. The 25-year-old Guyanese made his T20I debut in the recently concluded series against Afghanistan but could only manage to score 35 runs in three matches.
West Indies squad for T20 World Cup 2026: Shai Hope (C & WK), Johnson Charles (WK), Roston Chase, Matthew Forde, Shimron Hetmyer, Jason Holder, Akeal Hosein, Shamar Joseph, Brandon King, Gudakesh Motie, Rovman Powell, Sherfane Rutherford, Quentin Sampson, Jayden Seales, Romario Shepherd.
