Filmmaker Milap Zaveri is celebrating a long-awaited commercial victory with his latest release, Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat. The romantic drama, headlined by Harshvardhan Rane and Sonam Bajwa, has reportedly
grossed over ₹100 crore globally, marking a much-needed hit for Zaveri after years of mixed reception. But while the film has performed strongly at the box office, online reactions have been notably divided—particularly when it comes to the film’s portrayal of romance and emotional intensity.
Several critics and social media users have labelled the film “regressive” and “cringe,” pointing to its dramatic dialogue and old-school melodramatic tone. Despite this, Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat has cultivated a sizable fanbase across mass circuits, where its music, emotional plot and lead performances appear to have resonated.

Milap Responds to Negative Review: ‘Grateful Audiences Didn’t Agree’
The discussion resurfaced this week when a film review by X (formerly Twitter) user Nikhil Ram began receiving renewed traction. The review described the film as “an old-school, regressive cringe-fest that has to be seen to be believed.” It critiqued the background score and dialogues while acknowledging the strong performances by the cast and praising the soundtrack. Ultimately, the reviewer concluded that the film “just didn’t work” for them beyond its music.
Nearly two weeks after the post, Zaveri responded by sharing the review on his own X account. His reply was brief but pointed: “Again so grateful audiences didn’t agree with you bhai”
The filmmaker added a heart and folded-hands emoji, signalling that he’s choosing gratitude over debate.
About the Film
Released over Diwali, Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat opened to lukewarm critical reviews but steady ticket sales, especially in Tier-2 and Tier-3 centres. The film also features Shaad Randhawa, Sachin Khedekar and Ananth Narayan Mahadevan in key roles.
While the discourse around its treatment of romance and gender roles continues online, the film’s commercial momentum suggests that it has tapped into a nostalgic audience craving heightened emotion and dramatic storytelling.
