One of the most important matches of the Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 will see Harmanpreet Kaur’s India take on Nigar Sultana’s Bangladesh in a crucial Group A clash at the Emirates Old Trafford in Manchester on Thursday.
India entered the 12-team tournament with the form of their top order as a concern, but Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Verma have allayed those fears.
Mandhana has scored 159 runs in three games, while Shafali has contributed 92, with both batters striking at over 154 and providing brisk starts.
But the inability of the middle order to build on those platforms has emerged as a fresh concern for the team management.
Captain Harmanpreet Kaur (SR 109.09), Jemimah Rodrigues (94.11) and Yastika Bhatia (105.88) have struggled to maintain
the momentum set by the openers. Their inability to accelerate has left Richa Ghosh and Deepti Sharma with a heavier burden to finish the innings.
Having played three games each, both Harmanpreet and Jemimah have managed just 11 boundaries between them and are yet to hit a six. Yastika, meanwhile, has struck only three fours in two knocks, numbers that could be a concern for the Indian camp as the tournament progresses.
India would know they can’t afford such mistakes to creep into their game with the business end of the tournament approaching. After facing Bangladesh, they will next take on the in-form Australia team.
India vs Bangladesh Head-To-Head Record In T20Is
India and Bangladesh have met 19 times in women’s T20Is, with India dominating the head-to-head record. The Women in Blue have emerged victorious in 18 of those games, while Bangladesh have managed just a solitary victory.
India vs Bangladesh: Key Players To Watch Out For
Harmanpreet Kaur: The Indian captain is the highest run-scorer against Bangladesh in women’s T20Is. She has amassed 483 runs in 18 matches at an average of 34.5, though her strike rate stands at 115.82. While those numbers are modest by her standards, Harmanpreet will remain central to India’s hopes of posting a commanding total.
Nigar Sultana: She is the leading run-scorer against India in women’s T20Is. She has accumulated 317 runs in 16 games at an average of 21.13, although her strike rate of 85.21 reflects a cautious approach. Despite those modest returns, Sultana remains a vital figure in Bangladesh’s batting line-up and will be key to their hopes of mounting a successful chase or steering the innings under pressure.
Rabeya Khan: The star allrounder will be central to Bangladesh’s hopes in this contest, with her contributions expected to be vital with both bat and ball. Rabeya has picked 12 wickets in nine matches against India, at an economy of 5.93.
Deepti Sharma: The star all-rounder, who was named Player of the Tournament at last year’s ODI World Cup, is expected to play a pivotal role in India’s campaign, with her all-round contributions likely to be crucial. Deepti has claimed 11 wickets in 14 games against Bangladesh, while maintaining a brilliant economy rate of 4.54, underlining her value as a dependable wicket-taking and run-restricting option.
Which Team Has The Upper Hand?
India head into their Women’s T20 World Cup clash against Bangladesh with a clear edge, backed by a dominant head-to-head record and greater depth across both batting and bowling departments.
The conditions are expected to suit a balanced contest, but on paper, they favour India’s well-rounded unit, making them the stronger team going into the game.
