Kodaikanal (Tamil Nadu), Jul 24 (PTI) An off-duty, allegedly inebriated police constable went on a rampage and vandalised the government hospital property here following an altercation with a nurse, officials said.
The incident occurred late at night on July 23, when the constable, identified as Thangapandi, attached to the Kodaikanal police station, arrived at the hospital in plainclothes seeking medical treatment.
According to reports, a nurse on duty allegedly refused to treat him and addressed him disrespectfully, using abusive language.
Enraged by the nurse’s behaviour, the constable allegedly hurled expletives and damaged property on the hospital premises. He smashed a table, a water dispenser, patient records, and a two-wheeler parked in
the compound. The situation was brought under control after other police personnel arrived at the scene, pacified the erring cop, and escorted him away.
CCTV footage of the vandalism has since surfaced, triggering fear among patients and the general public.
Following the incident, locals have raised complaints alleging that nurses at the hospital frequently use inappropriate and abusive language with patients arriving for treatment during the night shift.
The public has appealed to the authorities concerned to initiate strict disciplinary action against the constable for indulging in violence and endangering public safety, as well as against the hospital staff for their alleged mistreatment of patients. PTI JR ROH
