Una (HP), Nov 2 (PTI) There is a strong demand for special trains from Amb, Andaura and Una railway stations to facilitate the travel of migrant workers and employees returning home for Diwali and Chhath Puja.
On Monday, social organisations, migrant workers’ unions, and public representatives in Una district urged the Ministry of Railways and the Northern Railway administration to run additional trains during the festive season.
According to these organisations, thousands of workers from states such as Bihar, Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh, and various eastern states are employed across different sectors in the state, particularly in Una.
Many of these individuals wish to reunite with their families during the festive season. However, securing tickets
on regular trains is often challenging due to a shortage of available seats.
Migrant workers have requested special festive trains from Amb Andaura to major destinations such as Patna, Gaya, Muzaffarpur, and Delhi, as it would greatly assist thousands of migrant families in reaching their homes.
Residents emphasised the importance of announcing these special trains well in advance. This would provide passengers with sufficient time to book tickets, helping them avoid the last-minute rush and chaos.
Local public representatives have supported the demand, stating that enhancing rail connectivity during the festive season is crucial.
Beyond providing relief to passengers, these special trains would also help strengthen the regional economy and foster social harmony, they said. PTI COR BPL MPL
