International Yoga Day 2026: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lead the nation in observing the 12th International Day of Yoga on Sunday morning from Red Road in Kolkata.
The theme for this year’s celebration, “Yoga for Healthy Ageing,” highlights the role of yoga in enhancing physical health, mental well-being, emotional resilience and active ageing, thereby improving overall quality of life.
According to an official statement, the Prime Minister will address the gathering at Red Road in central Kolkata before joining thousands of participants for the Common Yoga Protocol session.
International Day of Yoga celebrations are being organised at nearly 2,500 locations worldwide, with over 210 Indian missions and posts participating, reaffirming yoga’s
emergence as a global movement promoting health, harmony and collective well-being.
Since the United Nations General Assembly adopted India’s proposal in 2015 to designate June 21 as the International Day of Yoga, PM Modi has led the celebrations from several locations, including New Delhi, Chandigarh, Lucknow, Mysuru, New York, Srinagar and Visakhapatnam, the statement said.
