Sachin Tendulkar Gifts His Test Jersey To India's Under-19 Captain Ayush Mhatre | Watch

India Under-19 captain Ayush Mhatre is back in Mumbai after scripting history in Zimbabwe. Under his leadership, the Indian colts defeated England by 7 wickets in the ICC Under-19 World Cup final, lifting the trophy for a record-sixth time. After returning home, Mhatre paid a visit to legendary Sachin Tendulkar, who gifted the youngster his Test jersey with a heartfelt note written on it.

“Dear Ayush, wishing you all the success in your career,” Sachin wrote on his jersey and signed the same.

The 18-year-old took to his Instagram handle and shared the video of receiving the priceless present from the master blaster.

“I grew up watching you through a screen. Today, I stand at your home, holding a piece of your journey in my hands,” Mhatre wrote.

“Thank you, Sir, for this honour. I will carry this with the same respect you carried Indian cricket for years.”

India’s Under-19 World Cup heroes Ayush Mhatre and Udhav Mohan received grand welcomes at their respective homes after helping the country secure a record-extending sixth title in Harare, Zimbabwe. Captain Mhatre was greeted like a local hero in Virar, with family, friends and neighbours turning up in large numbers, while Mohan enjoyed a similarly warm reception on his return to New Delhi.

Mhatre led from the front in the knockouts, scoring 53 off 51 balls in the final against England and 62 off 59 in the semi-final versus Afghanistan. Across the tournament, he amassed 214 runs in seven innings at an average of 30.57, finishing as India’s fourth-highest run-scorer.

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, however, stole the spotlight with 439 runs and the Player of the Tournament award. His stunning 175 in the final included 15 fours and 15 sixes, with 150 runs coming in boundaries alone, as he shattered multiple Under-19 World Cup records.
