Patna, Sep 19 (PTI) Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary on Saturday said the state government aims to directly link one crore women with employment, while expanding opportunities for their economic empowerment, higher education and safety.
Addressing the 25th foundation day ceremony of the Bihar State Commission for Women here, Choudhary said women were playing an increasingly important role in the state’s economic, social and political life.
He said programmes such as JEEViKA and Chief Minister’s Women Employment Scheme were providing women opportunities in tailoring, poultry farming, goat rearing and other economic activities.
“The government’s target is to directly link one crore women with employment,” said the chief minister.
Under the ‘Balika
PhD Fellowship’ programme, 1,000 female students will receive Rs 10,000 per month every year to pursue higher education and research, he said, adding that the government was also working towards establishing a university dedicated to women.
The chief minister said Bihar was the first state to introduce the ‘Police Didi’ initiative and deploy women police personnel around schools, colleges and other educational institutions for the safety of female students.
Choudhary also released a special postage stamp on the Bihar State Commission for Women and unveiled its silver jubilee souvenir.
He urged the Commission to go beyond grievance redressal and regularly advise the government on measures to improve women’s status. PTI PKD NN
