A Bengaluru man says he lost money after a woman he met on a dating app allegedly involved him in a planned scam. He shared his experience online, warning others to be careful when meeting people through dating platforms.
The man said he had matched with a woman named Shelly and had been speaking to her for several days. Their busy schedules meant they could not meet immediately, but he decided to see her when he finally had some free time from work.
“So I found Shelly on a dating app. We went on to talk for days. I couldn’t meet her due to a hectic office. But we were talking in between. Now today, I was free from the office, so I planned to meet her,” the man wrote.
She Asked Him To Pick Up A Package
Before they met, Shelly asked the man to collect
a package from another person named Ron. She told him to make the payment online and said she would return the money to him in cash.
“I did get weird but did not say much as she said her mother has a business and she has more cash than money online,” the man said. The man then went to the location shared with him. He said Ron told him the package was being prepared and asked him to make the payment while he waited.
“I got there to Ron’s location; this guy says he is packing it, and meanwhile you can pay. I got sceptical at first and asked him to come first. But in the end I did pay.”
Both People Blocked Him Afterwards
The man said he continued speaking to Shelly during the exchange, even though she was at another location. He claimed she later asked him to buy cigarettes because she had forgotten to place an order. After completing the errands and returning, he said he could no longer contact either Shelly or Ron.
“Now after this, both of them are not reachable. Both stopped replying. Meaning they were both in contact while doing this and carefully planned to fool people and steal their money,” the man said.
