Mumbai Indians secured a hard-fought win by 15 runs over Royal Challengers Bengaluru in their seventh league match of WPL 2026. The win over the Smriti Mandhana-led side at Vadodara’s BCA Stadium on Monday (January 26) helped Mumbai Indians jump to 2nd position in the WPL 2026 points table, but they have played one more match than Delhi Capitals, Gujarat Giants and UP Warriorz, who are also alive in the playoffs race.
Delhi and Gujarat, in fact, have the same number of points (6) in six matches.
The win over RCB on Monday, January 26, has kept Mumbai Indians’ title defence alive, but their place in the top three is still not guaranteed.
WPL 2026 points table after RCB-MI match in Vadodara on January 26
| POSITION | TEAM | MATCHES | WINS | LOSSES | NO RESULT | POINTS | NET RUN RATE |
| 1. | Royal Challengers Bengaluru (Q) | 7 | 5 | 2 | 0 | 10 | +0.947 |
| 2. | Mumbai Indians | 7 | 3 | 4 | 0 | 6 | +0.146 |
| 3. | Delhi Capitals | 6 | 3 | 3 | 0 | 6 | -0.169 |
| 4. | Gujarat Giants | 6 | 3 | 3 | 0 | 6 | -0.341 |
| 5. | UP Warriorz | 6 | 2 | 4 | 0 | 4 | -0.769 |
The Harmanpreet Kaur-led side can finish the
league stage with a maximum of 8 points and as high as second in the points table.
For Mumbai Indians to finish in the top three, they have to make sure that they defeat Gujarat Giants in their last league match on Friday (January 30) and hope that UP Warriorz and Delhi Capitals lose both their remaining league matches. If that happens, then Mumbai Indians will finish in the top three with 8 points, and UPW and DC can’t secure more than six points.
But if Mumbai Indians lose against Gujarat Giants and Delhi Capitals win even one of their remaining two league matches then MI’s title defence will get over.
MI’s performance so far
Mumbai Indians opened their WPL 2026 campaign on January 9, 2026, in Navi Mumbai against Royal Challengers Bengaluru but suffered a heartbreaking defeat by 3 wickets on the last ball of the match. In their second match, Mumbai Indians crushed Delhi Capitals by 50 runs at DY Patil Stadium on January 10 and then chased down the target of 193 runs in 19.2 overs to secure a 7-wicket win over Gujarat Giants.
However, post that win, they lost three back-to-back matches against UP Warriorz (twice) and Delhi Capitals.
While UP Warriorz defeated them by 7 wickets and 22 runs in Navi Mumbai, DC secured a win by 7 wickets in Vadodara on January 20.
