Former Indian cricketer Irfan Pathan has taken a latest jibe at Shahid Afridi, hinting that the latter’s recent dig at him, as the war of words continues on both sides of the border, a day ahead of another India vs Pakistan clash at the Asia Cup.
Pathan responded to Afridi’s recent remarks, claiming that some people from the neighbouring nation are “obsessed” with his name.
The controversy began in August when, in an interview with Lallantop, Pathan recounted a confrontation with Afridi on a flight.
“I asked Razzaq what kind of meat Pakistanis ate and whether dog meat was available. Hearing me, a surprised Razzaq questioned back, ‘Hey Irfan, why are you asking this?’ I replied that he (Afridi) has eaten dog meat; he has been barking for so long.
After this, Afridi could not say anything,” Pathan had said.
“I consider those people men who can say things face to face and who will look me in the eye. He keeps talking behind my back. I can only respond if he says things to my face. How do I respond to his lies? What should I respond to this lie?” Afridi questioned while speaking on Samaa TV.
Shahid Afridi accused @IrfanPathan of telling lies and challenged him to a face-to-face discussion. Afridi also claimed Pathan is attempting to prove his loyalty to India while opposing Pakistan.

The video of Afridi confronting Pathan has gone viral on social media and it appears the clip has caught the attention of the latter.
“Aap Log sahi kehte hain: ‘Ye padosi X players aur media Irfan Pathan ke naam se obsessed hain,” the former India cricketer tweeted on Saturday morning.

Tensions between India and Pakistan flared again after the Asia Cup Group A clash. India skipper Suryakumar Yadav and his side refused to shake hands with the opponents after their seven-wicket victory.
