Indian Govt Warns About Dangerous Chrome Issue That Can Be Used To Attack Users

Chrome users on Windows and Mac have once again been warned about a dangerous risk that can be exploited remotely by the attacker. The alert from the Indian government security agency, Indian Computer

Emergency Response Team or CERT-IN, on December 19 comes with a ‘high-severity’ alert to users of Google Chrome on popular platforms like Windows, macOS and Linux. Warnings like these are a concern for millions of users in the country and across the globe.

Chrome Security Issue: What The Alert Says 

The CERT-In bulletin clearly highlights the issues plaguing the Chrome browser and how it can affect the users. “Multiple vulnerabilities exist in Google Chrome due to out-of-bounds read, write in V8 and use-after-free in WebGPU. An attacker could exploit these vulnerabilities by convincing a user to visit a specially crafted or malicious webpage on the targeted system.” 

The agency also points out the Chrome Windows and macOS versions facing the risk: 

• Google Chrome versions prior to 143.0.7499.146/.147 for Windows
• Google Chrome versions prior to 143.0.7499.146/.147 for Mac
• Google Chrome versions prior to 143.0.7499.146 for Linux

The target for the Chrome issue can be anybody from an individual or a particular company that the attacker wants to hijack. Having the risk of a remote attack will have many worried and rightly so.
