Students at IIT-Kharagpur have received remarkable offers in Phase 1 of the 2025-26 placement season. Five students have secured packages exceeding Rs 2 crore, with the highest offer touching Rs 2.5 crore.
Another seven students have received offers between Rs 1 crore and Rs 2 crore. The placement drive began on December 1, 2025.
Record-Breaking Early Offers
IIT-Kharagpur clocked the fastest 1,000 offers among all IITs by early morning on Day 2. By Day 3, the tally rose to 1,170 offers, including 10 international placements.
An official noted that these international offers came from Japan (5), Dubai (2), Europe (1), London (1), and Singapore (1).
Over 3,000 Students Registered
More than 3,000 students from BTech, dual degree, MTech, MS, and PhD programmes have registered. Phase 1 of placements will continue
until December 12.
Hiring trends indicate a clear shift towards specialised and high-skill roles, especially those requiring deep technical expertise.
Which Roles Are In High Demand?
According to officials, the following sectors have seen significant recruitment traction:
- High-Frequency Trading (HFT) and quantitative research roles, offering top-tier packages.
- Deeptech profiles in semiconductor design, AI infrastructure, and advanced computing.
- Core engineering sectors including, energy, aerospace, ocean and naval architecture, and automotive, have also stepped up with competitive R&D roles.
Prof. Sanjay Gupta, Chair of the Career Development Centre (CDC), said their strategy was to broaden recruiter engagement across core and non-core sectors, encouraging students to balance salary, long-term career growth, and job satisfaction.
Strong Pre-Placement Offer (PPO) Season
A large portion of the graduating batch entered placements with PPOs secured during summer internships. One student with a PPO even received a premium offer worth several crores.
Top Recruiters On Campus
A student shared that major recruiters included Apple, Google, Microsoft, Airbus, Boeing, Mercedes, Qualcomm, Nvidia, Siemens, Standard Chartered, Graviton, Databricks, Postman, JPMC, Accenture, Amazon, Walmart, Goldman Sachs, Caterpillar, Deloitte US, Texas Instruments, BlackRock, American Express, ITC, Samsung, Bajaj, among others.
Early-stage startups have also participated, seeking candidates for highly specialised technical roles.
Placement Drive Declared A Success
CDC Chair Prof. Gupta credited the success to the dedicated efforts of student placement coordinators, faculty members, and the CDC office.
Despite market challenges, coordinated planning ensured strong outcomes for the institute.
