Manoj Bajpayee is gearing up for the release of Governor, one of the most anticipated films of the year. Directed by Chinmay Mandlekar and backed by Vipul Amrutlal Shah’s Sunshine Pictures, the film stars Manoj Bajpayee in the lead role alongside Adah Sharma.
After the release of its trailer, Governor has sparked curiosity for its gripping look at a crucial yet lesser-known chapter of India’s economic history. Set against the backdrop of the turbulent financial crisis of the 1990s, the film blends political tension, power struggles and institutional drama. While the story is rooted in a specific period, Manoj was equally focused on making sure his character’s language and diction felt authentic.
Manoj Bajpayee On Perfecting His Diction For Governor
Speaking about preparing for the role, Manoj Bajpayee admitted that he was nervous about getting the language right. The actor said he is particularly careful about diction because he understands how jarring it can feel when a regional language or accent is spoken incorrectly on screen.
He said, “I was very scared and nervous because actors, especially people like me, I don’t like to go wrong with language and diction. I am from Bihar. So, I know how much I get offended with language being wrongly spoken.”
Manoj added that while the film is being made in Hindi, the essence of the character’s regional background had to come through without making the accent distracting.
He shared, “So, it is better to go to the minimum, I always say because you are making it in Hindi. You need to play up the essence of that language. However, you are not supposed to be completely indulgent about the accent because it will take away the attention from the matter. That is why we have tried to keep a lot of measured things in this, the culture behind the language.”
